About Longscale Giving
Longscale Giving begins with the philanthropic work of Chris Strobl. It brings a commitment to effective altruism together with the ability to build and operate AI systems.
A good future, through and beyond AGI
Advanced AI could change how prosperity is created and how people participate in economic life. Our concern extends to what this means for an ordinary human life: income and opportunity, but also dignity, belonging, purpose and the ability to shape the future. These questions guide Longscale Giving.
Making philanthropy more capable
Chris’s contribution includes building the systems that help philanthropic work get done. AI can support research, analysis, coordination and implementation. We want to put these capabilities to practical use with NGOs and foundations, and learn where they help. Education and training are part of making that work useful to others.
Giving, preparation and timing
Some opportunities call for support now. Others call for research, relationships and preparation so that a future contribution can achieve more. We consider these choices together, comparing opportunities and revisiting our assumptions as the evidence changes.
Learning through shared work
Our approach depends on intellectual humility and close engagement with the people doing the work. Useful software can support repeated collaboration; over time, that collaboration can create lasting relationships among organisations, supporters and practitioners. We will share what we learn, including what does not work.
